Royal court painters were not a rarity in medieval or even modern Europe. But the loyalty of Ádám Mányoki is still extraordinary. Not only did he capture the life of Ferenc Rákóczi II on two excellent portraits, but after his emigration to France, he also spent a long time helping impoverished fugitives.
