A painter’s wife in violet

Merse Pál Szinyei’s iconic painting Lady in Violet depicts the painter’s wife, Zsófia Probster, who was pregnant with their first child at the time of the painting. The dress was sewn by Zsófia Probster herself, who, in addition to modelling, also had to utilize her sewing skills several times. The creative process took so long that she had to adjust the dress several times because of her ever-growing belly. (Pál Szinyei Merse: Lady in Violet)
